Fortunate Peace

CREDITS: Written and performed by Ryan Hutchens.

lYRICS:   What's so important about the morning, or the moment that you leave?  If you're telling me that it's worth it, well then I can't wait to see the good things we grow and the love that we made out last us.  The seasons get old to remember the name.  And I want you to know my girl I won't find more than you provide.  It's a fortunate peace you found without me.  So tell me more about your writing and the way your family's strange.  Tell me anything you like girl, in the end I won't stay.  But I want you to know that hardly a day goes passing without thinking of home and a simpler life.  And I want you to know my girl I won't find more than you'll provide.  It's a fortunate peace you found without me.

dREAMS BE DREAMS

CREDITS: Original song by Jack Johnson.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

She's just waiting for the summertime when the weathers fine
She could hitch a ride out of town
And so far away from that low down good for nothing mistake making fool
With excuses like baby that was a long time ago
But that's just a euphemism if you want the truth he was out of control
But a short times just a long time then your mind just won't let it go

Well summer came along and it then was gone and so was she
Not from him because he followed her just to let her know
A dreams a dream
And all this livings so much harder than it seems
But girl don't let your dreams be dreams
You know this livings not so hard as it seems
Don't let your dreams dreams
Your dreams your dreams be dreams

I LOVE YOU BUT GOODBYE

CREDITS: Original song by Langhorne Slim.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

Why did you come?
If you can't stay forever
How could you leave me all
alone on this Earth

Who was I before you?
I can't remember
Why couldn't I have been the one to
Leave here first?

I love you but goodbye
I love you but goodbye

No words of wisdom
Can make me feel better
Lately I'm having hard days and I
I curse the night

Maybe I'll fly far away
And try to forget her
Maybe I'll stay right where I am and
get on with my life

She said I love you but goodbye
I love you but goodbye
A bird with clipped wings can still sing
But can no longer fly

What are we here for?
Who makes the decision?
For every beginning
There must come an end

I want to thank you darling
For all that you've given
I want to thank you, thank you for
being my friend

And I love you but goodbye
I love you but goodbye
I love you but goodbye
I love you but goodbye

ZALO

CREDITS: Written and performed by Ryan Hutchens

LYRICS: There's a war for inner peace.  Paranoia walks with me.  I can't ever let it be.  It's like running in a dream.  I was stubborn as a child.  Rather die than be denied.  Bore a troubled tested faith that my love would find its place.  And there's pumas in the cliffs casting shadows on the mist, but I'm sleeping safe from them.  Spend the night at world's end.  I keep driving through the night.  To afraid to look behind.  It's the story vs. the sight.  It's so commonplace to die.  I can see things through the trees.  I can talk to man and beast.  I'm the seeking in the change.  I'm gonna save it for the end.  And all the stories in the waves, they come close and fall away.  All the bodies in the sand are left stranded in its wake.  Feels good to share the night.  It's an overwhelming life.  But you killed a man Zalo.  Yeah I can drive you home.  Feels good to share the night.  It's an overwhelming life.  But you killed a man Zalo.  Yeah I can drive you home.

RAT WITHIN THE GRAIN

CREDITS: Original song by Damien Rice. Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

This would not have happened
If I hadn't missed my plane
I've would have been there when they told you
I'm the Rat within the grain
Within this big misunderstanding now
I'm being misunderstood
I think'in someones trying to fuck with me
And set fire to my wood
I wouldn't want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn't want you to worry
You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you
It's a stupid situation now
Where everything goes wrong
If you can't tell if I am lying
Then you do not belong
In my bed
Go rest your head
Upon the bones of a bigger man
He can cover you with rock wool
And you can close up like a clam
I wouldn't want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn't want you to worry
You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you
So go play with your piano
Write a mediocre song
Out the shell of mediocrity
And pretend there's nothing wrong
I never thought you where a chicken shit
I never thought of you at all
Until you asked me to be part of it
Now you're showing me your wall
I wouldn't want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn't want you to worry
You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you

BELLA DONNA

CREDITS: Original song by Seth Avett.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS: Baby, I asked you not to keep me waiting.
I told you now to keep me waiting.
Now the afternoon is fading on.
Donna, Bella Donna have you seen me?
Have you ever really seen me
Like I want for you to see me now?
Lonesome like you were when you were sixteen.
When maybe even I weren't listening.
Did I help when I was kissing you?
Donna, Bella Donna are you listening?
And were you ever really listening
Like I want for you to listen now?

THE FRAME

CREDITS: Written and performed by Ryan Hutchens

LYRICS: Oh my brother I've sinned.  There's blood on my hands again.  I'll take what I can and I'll make a new plan, but some things that break won't mend.  Tell my mom I'm okay.  And tell my friends that its better this way.  And tell my dad that I worked everyday, but not all who work will win.  And I've been here before and I know what it takes.  A home built on trust takes a lifetime to make, and a second to break.  Oh my lover I've slipped.  I lost my nerve again.  I said its to late but in truth I'm afraid, because all things that start must end.  In the years since we met.  I've done somethings that I've come to regret, but one thing remains your love keeps me sane and your picture stays next to my bed.  I've been here before and I know what you've got back home in a draw in a place you forgot.  In the back of the frame.

MURDER IN THE CITY

CREDITS: Original song by The Avett Brothers.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

If I get murdered in the city
Don't go revenging in my name
One person dead from such is plenty
No need to go get locked away
When I leave your arms
The things I think of
No need to get over alarmed
I'm coming homeI wonder which brother is better

Which one our parents loved the most
I sure did get in lots of trouble
They seemed to let the other go
A tear fell from my father's eye
I wondered what my dad would say
He said, "I love you and I'm proud of you both,
In so many different ways"

If I get murdered in the city
Go read the letter in my desk
Don't bother with all my belongings, No
Pay attention to the list
Make sure my sister knows I love her
Make sure her mother knows the same
Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
Like the love that let us share our name.

FAMOUS FLOWER OF MANHATTAN

CREDITS: Original song by The Avett Brothers.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

I found a flower in a field

A field of cars and people, Rows of concrete, paint, and steel

Manhattan is where it grew

And I thought, to cut it from its stem
And take it from the cracks
Between bricks that it lay in
And save it from city strife
Away from the city life

Then someone, they whispered in my ear
A county girl can't be made out of anybody here
Don't touch it, it loves you not
Don't touch it, it loves you not

Cause blue birds, Don't fly without their wings
And when we put them in a cage
The world can't hear them sing
So selfish when greed sets in
Possession, the king of sin

And people don't ever let you down
Forever find a way to kill whatever love they've found
A heart beat and I want it too
Manhattan is where she grewSo I left and I let the flower be

And yesterday saw the flower on cable TV
Much prettier than here with me
For all of the world to see
Much prettier than here with me

DELICATE LEAVE

CREDITS: Written and performed by Ryan Hutchens.

GREEN EYES

CREDITS: Original song by Cold Play.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I came here to talk
I hope you understand
The green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you
And how could, anybody, deny you
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes

Honey you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think you should know

The green eyes, you're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you, must be out of their mind
Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter since I met you
Honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes, green eyes
Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand

WESTERN STATES

CREDITS:  Written and performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS: It's a simple life but the feeling inside, its the best I can do and I've made up my mind.  I'll wash my face and I won't steal again.  You don't have to be patient, we'll start at the end.  And when life starts again, it'll be at our hands.  Walking this line is taking its toll, knowing your home won't be my home.  Number nine all in a row.  The contest is won my conscience is worn out from the load.  I'm tired to the bone.  I read your lines, its a warning sign.  You're all invited to see my shame.  I'll pass you by, all in good time.  You're more than welcome to walk away.  If its ever right, now is the time.  Because I'm leaving town for the western states.

MAMA'S EYES

CREDITS: Original song by Justin Townes Earle.  Performed by Ryan Hutchens.

LYRICS:

I am my father's son
I've never known when to shut up
I ain't fooling no one
I am my father's son

We don't see eye to eye
And I'll be the first to admit I've never tried
It sure hurts me, it should hurt sometime
We don't see eye to eye

I was a young man when
I first found the pleasure in the feel of a sin
And I went down the same road as my old man
Yeah, I was younger then

Now it's 3 a.m. and I'm standing in the kitchen
Holding my last cigarette
Strike a match and I see my reflection in the mirror in the hall
And I say to myself

I've got my mama's eyes.  Her long thin frame and her smile.  And I still see wrong from right. Because I've got my mama's eyes.
